Lt. Gen. Dheeraj Seth PVSM, AVSM, Southern Region paid homage to General K.S. Thimmaiah at his Memorial and visited his museum at Madikri. Major (Retd) B.A. Nanjappa was present on the occasion.
Lt. Gen. Dheeraj Seth later addressed grievances of Retired soldiers’ at conference held at Crystal Court, Madikeri. He said – Kodagu is not just a geographical area, it as the birth place of heroic and brave soldiers . Kodagu district has made great contribution to the Indian Army. The legacy and heritage left by great soldiers like Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimmaiah is still visible in the district. He expressed the feeling that if a large number of the youth of Kodagu join the Indian Army, the strength of the Indian army will increase. In this context, he hoped that the youth should be able to uphold the military heritage of Kodagu in the country by joining the army. Considering all these factors, he said that the Indian Army has been organizing ex-service men grievance redressel meetings of ex-soldiers in the district for the last 13 years.
Lieutenant General Karan Veer Singh Brar said that steps are being taken to provide health care through ECHS and canteen facilities through CSD to retired soldiers and their dependents. Along with this, it has been recommended to the Army Headquarters in Delhi to implement the Rural India Health Project and Loktantra Drishti Hospital Project. 90% of essential medicines are available in Madikeri and Virajpet ECHS hospitals. He said that facilities will be provided for the retired soldiers and their dependents who go to the Mangalore ECHS Hospital for further treatment.
5 retd servicemen who have contributed to the society after retirement were honored with the Military Medal of Honour. Colonel C.P. Muthanna for environmental protection, Major B.A. Nanjappa for the establishment of the General Thimmaiah Museum, General Thimmaiah Museum Superintendent Subedar Major G.K. Thimmaiah, Havaldar B.K. Medappa for the establishment of the Kodagu Boxing Association, his wife Rani Medappa, M.K. Ponnappa for organizing a skill development camp received the medal of honour from Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth.
Arrangements were made on the spot to resolve the monthly pension, errors in service records, and pension issues of ex-soldiers and veterans living in Kodagu. Officers from 8 divisions of the Indian Army were present on the spot to rectify the records of those who had served in various branches of the Indian Army and provided services to the retired soldiers and their dependents. Officers from ASC, MEG, DSC, EME, MRC, AMC, Signals, Agni Veer, and Army Headquarters participated in the staff camp.
Retired soldiers and their dependents who had come from different parts of the district benefited from the camp.
Retired Major General B.A. Cariappa, President of Kodagu District Ex-Servicemen’s Association Major O.S. Chingappa, prominent Subedar Major Vasappa Agarimane, Havaldar Kuttanda Nanda Madappa (Retd.), Havaldar Madeyanda Nachappa, Subedar Major Natolanda Somaiah, Havaldar Kupadira Muthanna, were present at the program.
