Recently ABVP taken out a rally urging the government not to close Kodagu University from Chikkaluvara to Kushalnagar .
Speaking on the occasion Former MLA Appacchu Ranjan by inaugurating rally said that during the tenure of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Kodagu University was established. Before that during the tenure of former chief minister BS Yediyurappa Rs 15 crore grants was released to Jnana Kaveri Postgraduate Centre in Chikka Aluvara .
MLA alleged that the present Congress- government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has totally ignored the University and has not given any grants. Appach Ranjan warned of intensifying the protests, if the government had a plans of closing University.
Mysore-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar who also participated in the rally informed that education and health are the two major requisites for a good society.
But the state government has totally mismanaged the finical condition of the state , and as a result they are planning to close some of Universities . Further he said as we all know that Government Universities are a ray of hope for students from middle class families, to do their postgraduate studies. He made an appeal to the state government not to close the University for any reason.
MLC Suja Kushalappa and many others took part in the rally with students and near by villagers. The students raised slogans against the government and requested not to close Kodagu University or merge with any other University.
The protestors later formed a human chain at Field Marshal Cariappa Circle, Kushalnagar and a memorandum was submitted to the government through Tahsildar Kiran Gowraiah. Various National ,State and District ABVP executive committee member were present on the occasion and supported the rally.
