1.34 lakh children in Kodagu district administered deworming tablets

District RCH officer Dr Madhusudan speaking during the launch of the programme at St Joseph’s Educational Institution in Madikeri recently said that

the National Deworming Programme covered 1,34,822 children in 2023-24 in Kodagu district, achieving a 99.55% progress rate.

He said the programme was conducted in two phases one in February and the other in May.

He said that target in Kodagu district was 1,33,794 children aged 1-19 years, including 31,558 anganwadi children, 1,661 children out of anganwadis, 75,369 children in all government, aided, and private schools, 10,059 children in pre-university colleges, 8,330 children in degree colleges, 1,746 children in ITI and technical institutions and 5,071 out-of-school children. The deworming programme is being conducted nationwide, he said. “Under the programme, Albendazole tablets are given to children aged between 1 and 5 years at anganwadis and those aged between 6 and 19 years at all government, aided and private schools, colleges and technical education institutions.

Manjula, Deputy Director, Pre-University Education Department, emphasised that children under 19 years of age should take the deworming tablet to reduce stomach pain, improve digestion and prevent anaemia. DDPI C Rangadhamappa, Department of Women and Child Development Deputy Director Nataraj were present.
