MLC Mandepanda Suja Kushalappa speaking at Nadorme, an event organised in collaboration with the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy and the Kodava Welfare and Recreation Association recently said the process of converting existing plantations and estates into residential plots must stop.

He said that our land and properties should always remain under our ownership. The government must promote agricultural activities on fallow lands by providing subsidies. Reviving paddy cultivation can help raise groundwater levels, thereby preserving the environment and the natural heritage of Kodagu, he added.

MLA Dr Mantar Gowda highlighted the importance of encouraging the youth of Kodagu to settle down in their own place than migrating somewhere else. He also promised governmental support to the Academy.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Venkat Raja lauded the Academy’s initiatives in promoting the Kodava culture and language.
