M.C. Nanaiah(MCN), former minister, speaking at a meeting organized at Pandianda Belliappa hall after flag hoisting of the Cooperation Week at District Cooperative Central Bank premises recently in Madikeri has suggested that co-operative societies should further increase economic progress by providing credit facilities to farmers and the poor and contribute to economic growth of the co-operative societies.
He said that there should not be any interference in the field of cooperative societies and added that the strengthening of cooperative societies is possible if there is an equal share for all and equal power to all.
Speaking further Nanaiah said that cooperative societies have their own place in the country and the mission of cooperatives is to share the wealth and live equally.
Cooperative societies can be further strengthened if there is honesty and efficiency in the cooperative sector and in this regard, cooperative societies should work non- politically, he said.
He also said that lakhs of people have membership in cooperative societies and Co-operative sectors should be allowed to function independently and added that cooperative societies should be non-political.
MCN expressed appreciation that there are 21 Central Co-operative Banks in the state and Kodagu District Co-operative Bank is doing the best financial activity.
Speaking on the occasion Kodandera Bond Ganapathy, President of Kodagu District Cooperative Central Bank said that the 71st Cooperative Week is being celebrated and Kodagu DCC Bank is giving loans to the farmers at zero interest rate ranging from 3 to 5 lakh rupees and they are working hard for benefit and development of the farmers. M M Shyamala, retired principal of Karnataka Institute of Co-operative Management, said that reviews should be held on the progress of cooperative societies during the Co-operative week.
Speaking further Shyamala said that the principle of cooperation is to strengthen the cooperative movement and make progress through collective efforts and added that a lot of programs have been prepared for the economic growth of the cooperative sector.
