Dr. Mantar Gowda, MLA of Madikeri Assembly Constituency after presiding over the Kanakadasa Jayanti program held at Gandhi Bhavan in Madikeri recently said that the Santakavi Kanakadasa tried to build an equal society through his kirtans. The programme was conducted on behalf of the District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department.
Dr. Mantar Gowda explained that Kanakadasa has worked hard to eliminate inequality, poverty and ignorance in the society through kirtans. MLA further said that Kanakadasa’s kirtans are timeless and should be studied by everyone and added that Kanakadasa’s kirtans and guidance should be adopted in our daily life.
Speaking on the occasion Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Dr Venkat Raja remembered the Kanakadasa’s famous hymn and added that everyone should adopt the message in Kanakadasa’s kirtan in their lives and move forward.
U.R.Nagesh said that Kanakadasa is one of the greatest Dasa and added that he condemned the discrimination in the society and gave up the glory of his nobility and came forward to respond to the hardships of the people. Kanakadasa, who composed more than 300 hymns, received the darshan of Lord Krishna with his devotion. Evidence of this can be seen in the Kanaka Kindi in Udupi and informed that this will show Kanakadasa’s achievement and strength.
‘Dasa Shrestha Kanakadasa is not a festival idol but has given his own message to the society through the spirit of passion, devotion, knowledge and liberation path,’ asserted Nagesh.
General Secretary of Kodagu District Kuruba Sangh B A Gangadhara said that Dasa Shrestha Kanakadasa worked hard to eliminate inequality in the society through his kirtans.
