SWASTHA, the centre for Special Education and Rehabilitation organised a one -day training workshop recently, onmushroom cultivation and vermicompost production for the specially-abled and their caretakers, as a part of its community-based Rehabilitation Programme for sustainable livelihood.
Senior Scientist Prabhakar, Head in charge of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) – Gonikoppa, was the chief resource person for the workshop. He explained the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture, utilisation of locally available resources as raw materials for the production of vermicompost, varieties in mushrooms, methods of cultivation, viability and marketing of the produce.
Veena Ashok, Scientist-KVK, presented the mushroom cultivation demonstration. Dr.Mrunal Deepak, Scientist-KVK, spoke on the importance of nutrition in children.
Around 29 beneficiaries participated in the workshop. Gowtham Maini, Manager of Tata Coffee Suntikoppa Estate was the Guest of Honour. Arathy Somaiah, Director – Swastha presided over the programme.
