A heartbreaking incident occurred in Basavanahalli, Kushalnagar taluk, when a dilapidated gate of a school compound suddenly collapsed, killing a four-year-old girl.
The deceased has been identified as Apoorva (4), daughter of Satish and Pavithra. The family is mourning the tragic loss.
Although local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to help immediately after the incident, they could not save the child.
According to locals, the girl had a habit of coming to the gate every day to pick up her elder sister, who studies at the Girijan Ashram School located near their house, and to play in the area.
At the time of the incident, the huge iron gate of the dilapidated compound wall collapsed along with a portion of the wall and fell on the girl’s head, killing her on the spot.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Basavanahalli, while members of the public have questioned why the school compound had not been properly secured despite its deteriorated condition.
Kushalnagar Taluk Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee President V.P. Shashidhar and tribal leader R.K. Chandra visited the spot and obtained information from the school headmaster.
Constituency MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda consoled the parents of the deceased girl over the phone.
District ITDP Project Coordinator Officer Bhagirathi, Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department Sidde Gowda and Tehsildar Krishnamurthy also visited the family and consoled the grieving parents.
