Students of Government High School, Makkandur, were sensitised on anti-malaria month and preventive measures against communicable diseases that spread during the monsoon season during an awareness programme held on Saturday.
Taluk Senior Health Inspector G.V. Srinath visited the school and educated students on precautions against infectious diseases, including malaria and dengue fever. He provided detailed information regarding the symptoms of the diseases and highlighted the importance of timely prevention.
He also spoke about maintaining hygiene in school kitchens, cleanliness of utensils and the importance of using iodised salt. Students were advised not to allow water to stagnate in discarded materials at home and school premises and to eliminate mosquito larvae at the source to prevent dengue fever. He further advised that water storage tanks should be cleaned and dried twice a week and covered properly after being filled with water.
Area Health Education Officer T.N. Palaksha urged teachers to motivate parents to ensure that girls aged between 14 and 15 years receive the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. He also provided information regarding the 100-Day Tuberculosis Campaign, the importance of the Nashamukta Bharat Abhiyan and the National Pulse Polio ImmunisationProgrammescheduled to be held on the 28th of this month. He emphasised that all children below five years of age should be vaccinated without fail.
