Deputy Commissioner (DC) S.J. Somashekar participated in All India Radio’s live phone-in programme “Searching for Light” and listened to public grievances. During the one-hour live programme, more than 16 people from across the district called in and raised issues related to land matters, road repairs, drinking water supply, installation of street lights, and other basic amenities.
Ganesh Kumar from Kothur village in Virajpet taluk stated that it was difficult to purchase fertilizer without an FID identity card and requested that RTC be provided. In response, the Deputy Commissioner stated that there is no disruption in fertilizer supply and there is no need for concern.
Harris from the Seventh Hosakote area near Suntikoppa stated that a request had been submitted for land amendment, but no action had been taken. The D C responded that the concerned officer would be directed to take action.
A caller from Kuragadalu village near Cherambane in Madikeri taluk stated that a family member who is 100% disabled faces severe hardship during the rainy season due to lack of road connectivity. He said that even basic access to groceries requires travel to Cherambane and that vehicles do not reach the area. He requested construction of a tar road. The D C assured that the matter would be taken up on priority and brought to the attention of MLAs.
Satish from Ballyamandur in Ponnampet taluk stated that although land had been identified for relocation from a flood-affected area, it had not yet been measured. The D C said that the Deputy Director of the Survey Department would be instructed to carry out the measurement and that the issue would be resolved in consultation with MLAs.
Changappa from Alur Siddhapura in Somwarpet taluk stated that although a request had been made to demarcate a road as per the village map, delays of several months occur in processing files. The D C said that action would be taken after verifying the village map.
Usha from Dechur in Madikeri complained that indiscriminate parking has damaged drainage systems and retaining walls. The D Csaid that the Municipal Commissioner would be instructed to inspect and take necessary action.
Raghu from Cherambane stated that there are inconsistencies in drinking water supply during summer and requested adequate supply. The D Csaid that Gram Panchayats have already been instructed to ensure uniform supply. Karumbayya from Ponnampet stated that land purchased 20 years ago under Jamma tenure has still not been recorded in RTC. The D C advised submitting a written request and assured that directions would be issued to the Tahsildar.
Rupa from Madikeri stated that pipeline work near Kannika Parameshwari Temple has been left incomplete, posing danger to children and the elderly. She also requested installation of street lights. The D C said that the Municipal Commissioner would be instructed accordingly.
Kusuma from Putani Nagar stated that drinking water pipeline work remains incomplete, affecting supply. The DC said directions would be issued.
A caller from Kambibane stated that a land dispute pending since 1987 has not been resolved despite repeated visits to authorities. The D C said documents would be reviewed and appropriate action taken, noting that civil disputes must be resolved through courts.
Ganesh from Haradur stated that 94 applications for housing have not been processed. The DCstated that action requires properdocumentation. Other suggestions included conducting surprise inspections of government offices and holding monthly public outreach programmes.
