Jal Jeevan Mission Extended Till 2028; MP Reviews Implementation

A review meeting on the progress and effective implementation of the centrally sponsored Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, recently extended till 2028, was held under the chairmanship of MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyarrecently.

The meeting, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, discussed measures to strengthen implementation and organise awareness initiatives, including Jal Mahotsav. The MP instructed officials to ensure timely and efficient execution of all works without lapses.

Emphasising the Centre’s commitment to providing safe drinking water in rural areas, he urged officials to work diligently to achieve the mission’s objectives.

Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar offered guidance on implementation, while Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena stated that progress would be periodically reviewed.

Executive Engineer Bhaskar informed that Jal Mahotsavprogrammes have been approved in 23 gram panchayats. Under the Single Village Scheme (SVS), 369 of 457 works have been completed, while 86 are in progress.

Under the Multi-Village Scheme (MVS), drinking water is being supplied to 12 habitations in Kushalnagar taluk at a cost of ?8.52 crore. New proposals covering multiple taluks have also been submitted.

Reviewing the 2025-26 action plan, officials stated that 24 works have been taken up in Madikeri taluk at an estimated cost of ?35 lakh. Of the 36 purification units installed in the district, 27 are functional.

Under the PVTG PM Janman scheme, eight works have been sanctioned, with one completed and six in progress.

The meeting also discussed drinking water supply issues at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

Officials highlighted seasonal shortages and explored alternative arrangements while balancing Madikeri city’s summer water requirements.
