Kodagu District In-charge Minister N.S. Bhosaraju alleged that the Central government has diluted the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by converting it into the “VB-G RAM G” scheme without consulting states, thereby undermining the powers of G P’s.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the new scheme places an additional 40% financial burden on states and strips Panchayats of their authority to plan and execute works. He said the Congress would launch nationwide awareness campaigns demanding withdrawal of the scheme.

Ponnanna ChiefMinister’s Legal Advisor A.S. Ponnanna termed the move anti-federal and anti-democratic, noting opposition from several states. Party leaders and committee members were present on the occasion.
