The 20th Annual Athletics Meet of Kodagu Sainik School for the academic year 2026-27 commenced at the athletics ground of the Sports School in Kudige.
Wing Commander Mohammed Shaji, officiating Principal of the school, attended the event as the chief guest, while Squadron Leader Deepak Nayak, Administrative Officer, was the guest of honour.
The inaugural ceremony began with an impressive march-past and the lighting of the sports torch.
White pigeons were also released as a symbol of peace, formally marking the commencement of the athletics meet.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Wing Commander Mohammed Shaji urged the cadets to strive for excellence in all sporting events and give their best performances. He said the athletics meet would serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming South Zone Sports Tournament, which will soon be hosted by Kodagu Sainik School.
Recalling the achievements of Nari Shakti at the Asian Games, he praised the outstanding performances of women athletes and encouraged the school’s female cadets to participate in various sporting events with confidence and determination.
He noted that women athletes had demonstrated their ability to compete on equal terms with men and, on many occasions, even outperform them.
Teaching and non-teaching staff members and students were present at the inaugural ceremony.
The event marked the beginning of the school’s annual celebration of sporting talent, discipline and competitive spirit.
