In view of the increasing number of cybercrime cases, Kodagu District Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindumani has appealed to the public not to open suspicious links received through emails, Facebook, or other social networking platforms.

Addressing a press conference at his office, the SP said cybercriminals are misleading the public by spreading malicious and obscene content through social media. She noted that a case was registered on January 13 at the Cyber Crime Police Station regarding the circulation of obscene messages on Facebook, and that technical data related to the case is being verified.

The SP stated that cybercrime incidents have been on the rise in recent days, with fraudsters using various social media platforms to lure unsuspecting citizens. She advised victims of cyber fraud to immediately contact the cybercrime helpline number 1930 and register a complaint.

Growers’ response

The SP said that during the coffee harvesting season, a large number of workers from outside the State arrive in the district. She noted that plantation owners have responded positively to the police department’s appeal to provide details of workers employed in their estates. The information collected is currently being verified.

Responding to a query, She clarified that so far there is no confirmed information regarding the presence of Bangladeshi migrants in the district.

Case filed.

The SP informed that a case has been registered against six persons in connection with the assault and robbery of a Bengaluru resident, Mahadev, in Madikeri last December. Those booked include Praveen and Sudarshan of Bengaluru, and Sujith, Rachana, Malathi, Ravi, and Darshan of  Madikeri.
