Taksha, an elephant housed at the Dubare Elephant Camp, one of the major tourist attractions in Kodagu district, died due to illness on Monday night.
According to officials, Taksha died at around 9.30 pm on December 8, 2025. The elephant had been captured in Channapatna of Ramanagara district on December 28, 2024, and was subsequently brought to the Dubare Animal Camp. Taksha was released from the kraal on July 21, 2025.
The elephant had been suffering from illness for the past ten days, with its health condition deteriorating significantly from December 6, 2025. Veterinary treatment was administered under the supervision of medical officer Dr. Mujeeb. However, despite treatment, the elephant succumbed to the illness on December 8.
On December 9, 2025, a post-mortem examination was conducted by Sonal Vishti, Conservator of Forests, Kodagu Circle, Madikeri, in the presence of Veterinary Officers Dr. Mujeeb, Dr. Chittiappa and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sindhe. Following the post-mortem, samples of the elephant were sent for further examination.
