A one-day training workshop on the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and maternal nutrition was organised at the Shishu Kalyan Institute in Madikeri recently. The programme was jointly organised by the Kodagu District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Women and Child Development, and IPE Global for Child Development Project Officers, Child Welfare Officers, Supervisors, and Anganwadi workers from across the district.
Addressing the participants, Prasanna Kumar, Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Development, said that the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating mothers to support their nutritional and healthcare needs.
He said eligible beneficiaries receive Rs 5,000 for the birth of their first child, irrespective of whether the child is a boy or a girl, while Rs 6,000 is provided for the birth of a second girl child under the scheme.
He urged Anganwadi workers to create awareness about the scheme at the grassroots level, identify all eligible beneficiaries, encourage them to submit applications on time, and ensure that they receive the benefits without delay. Pointing out that Kodagu is a hilly district with several remote villages, Prasanna Kumar stressed the need to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of the scheme due to lack of awareness or accessibility. Resource person Mahadev, State Programme Officer, IPE Global, delivered a detailed presentation on the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. He explained the roles and responsibilities of Child Development Project Officers, Supervisors, and Anganwadi workers, besides outlining the application process, beneficiary verification procedures, and effective implementation of the scheme.
Women and Child Development Officer Vimal K.G., Child Development Project Officers Renuka Balappa Hosamani, Sridevi Mudol, Poonacha, and Sheela, Matru Vandana Project Assistant Coordinator Gayathri, District Women Empowerment Project staff, and officials of the Department of Women and Child Development were present. Keshini S.R. Gender specialist compered the programme, Navya, Matru Vandana Coordinator, welcomed the gathering, and Mission Shakti District Coordinator Mamata proposed the vote of thanks.
