The 6th Annual Hindu Kesarugadde Sports Meet, organised by the Biligeri Planters Club, was held on July 18 and 19 at Tunthajje Kutumbasthara Gadde with enthusiastic participation.
The two-day sports meet featured competitions in cricket, volleyball, athletics, tug-of-war and coconut shooting. Former MLA K.G. Bopaiah, office-bearers of the Planters Club and sports enthusiasts participated in the event.
On the occasion, Cheppudira Cariappa, nationally renowned hockey player and commentator, was felicitated in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion of sports.
Cariappa has consistently encouraged young sportspersons by documenting sporting achievements and publishing the biographies of more than 200 athletes through articles in the daily newspaper Shakti and the magazine Poomale.
He is also the author of the book “Biographies of Kodagu Sportsmen,” which has been distributed free of cost to schools, colleges and public libraries to inspire young athletes. The organisershonoured him in recognition of his invaluable service to sports literature and his sustained efforts in promoting sportspersons and encouraging future generations. The felicitation programme concluded in the presence of a large gathering of sports enthusiasts and dignitaries.
