Strong opposition was voiced against the proposed “KPS Magnet” scheme during a protest meeting organised by the AIDSO Public Education Save Committee in Kushalnagar.

Speakers expressed concern that implementation of the scheme could lead to the closure of several government schools in Kodagu, adversely affecting rural and economically weaker students.

AIDSO State Vice-President Abhaya Diwakar alleged that the scheme could undermine public education and violate provisions of the Right to Education Act. Concerns were also raised regarding accessibility issues in hilly regions, especially for younger students.

Leaders demanded that the government withdraw the scheme and prioritise strengthening existing schools. A district-level Public Education Save Committee was also formed to coordinate further action.
