Kodavas Seeking Identity Preservation, Not Rights of Others: Balasubrahmanya

Senior advocate and thinker K.P. Bala subrahmanya stated that the Kodava community’s demand for recognition is aimed at preserving its unique identity, not at infringing upon the rights of others.

He was speaking at a seminar organised by the Codava National Council (CNC) on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Speakers emphasised the need to safeguard the cultural, linguistic, and social identity of the Kodava community and called for constitutional recognition.

Former Rajya Sabha member Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah highlighted the importance of preserving traditional practices and warned against cultural assimilation.CNC President N.U. Nachappa reiterated long-standing demands, including geopolitical autonomy, inclusion of Kodava language in the Eighth Schedule, and protection of cultural heritage.
