The Forest Department has successfully captured a wild elephant believed to be responsible for the death of a coffee planter near Siddapur.

The operation began early in the morning with the assistance of six trained elephants. Forest personnel conducted extensive searches in coffee plantations around Siddapur, Polibetta and Ammathi.The elephant, estimated to be about 35 years old, was eventually located in a plantation near BadagaBanangala. It was captured using a tranquilizer during the operation.

Local MLA M.S. Ponnanna had earlier instructed officials to capture the animal immediately following recent fatal attacks in the region.

Residents expressed relief after the successful capture of the elephant.
