COTPA Violations Booked; Rs 1,800 Fine Imposed

Officials conducted a surprise inspection of shops and hotels in the Biligeri and Kaggodlu areas to monitor the sale of tobacco products and enforce the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

During the drive, 10 cases were registered under Section 4 of the Act, and a total fine of Rs 1,800 was collected. Awareness was also created among vendors regarding compliance with tobacco control regulations.

The collected fine has been deposited into the joint account of the Deputy Commissioner and the District Health and Family Welfare Officer. The inspection team included Health Education Officer Palaksha, Health Inspector G.V. Srinath from the Taluk Health Office, Manjunath from the District Tobacco Cell, and personnel from the Police Department.
