Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar has directed officials to ensure effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme in Kodagu district.
He was speaking during the district-level committee meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office recently.
Industrial committee member Nagesh Kundalpady suggested that officials provide detailed information on the number of beneficiaries who have received skill training and certification under the scheme.
Joint Director of Industries K. Hanumantharaya informed the meeting that the programme provides training to artisans and traditional workers such as tailors, carpenters, laundry workers, garment makers, toy makers, painters, metal workers, boat makers and cobblers.
He stated that 111 applications have been approved under the scheme in the district. Out of 419 applications received from Gram Panchayat areas, 111 have been accepted, 307 are under process, and one application has been rejected.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to regularly provide updates on the progress of the scheme and ensure that government benefits reach deserving beneficiaries.
Officials from various departments, including KSSIDC, KIADB, CESC, the Agriculture Department, and representatives of industry associations, were present.
