A businessman from Kodagu allegedly committed suicide by setting himself on fire inside his car at Wayanad in Kerala.

The deceased has been identified as Sajeer, a resident of Kutta village in Ponnampet taluk. His wife and two children, who were in the car at the time, were rescued by locals and admitted to hospital with injuries.

According to police, Sajeer had reportedly lent Rs 20 lakh to a person named Bapu. As the amount was not repaid, Sajeer, allegedly distressed, set himself on fire inside the car in front of Bapu’s house. While Sajeer died on the spot, his wife and children survived with injuries.

A case has been registered at the Mananthavady police station and further investigation is underway. Police said Sajeer had recorded a video before the incident, allegedly holding Bapu responsible for his death. Sajeer owned several shops in Kutta village.
