Cash and Gold Stolen
An elderly woman was allegedly murdered and her cash and gold ornaments stolen by an auto-rickshaw driver known to her and his associates.
The deceased has been identified as Ratna, 77, a resident of Poornachandra Layout in Kudige. According to the police, the accused auto-rickshaw driver, Kumar of Kudige, was well acquainted with the woman and was aware of her money-lending activities.
The accused allegedly took Ratna in his auto-rickshaw on the pretext of helping her lend money to another person. He reportedly took her to the Tibet Camp area, where she was allegedly murdered and her cash and gold ornaments taken.
Ratna had been missing since Saturday. Her body was found on Monday in a maize field beside the new highway under construction near Bylakuppe and the Tibet Camp.
Police have arrested the accused and are investigating the alleged involvement of others in the crime.
Ratna reportedly lived at her daughter’s house and depended considerably on the accused for transportation. Police suspect that the accused exploited the trust placed in him and committed the crime with the intention of stealing her cash and gold.
