Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda inaugurated a three-day flower exhibition at Raja’s Seat Park on Saturday. The exhibition has been organised by the Horticulture Department in association with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and other departments, in connection with Republic Day celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said plans are underway to establish a high-tech canteen within the park. He suggested that flower exhibitions should be organised on special occasions rather than being limited to an annual event, and stressed the need to further enhance greenery in the park.

This year’s exhibition has been designed on the theme of the Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple and includes floral models of Kannada alphabets aimed at engaging children.
Several elected representatives and officials, including Municipal Council President P. Kalavathi, District Superintendent of Police Bindumani, and Deputy Director of Horticulture Shashidhara, were present.
As part of the exhibition, around 8,000 flower pots and nearly 20,000 flowering plants-including salvia, chrysanthemum, zinnia, dianthus and dahlia-have been displayed. Major attractions include floral replicas of the Bhagandeshwara Temple, Amar Jawan memorial, musical instruments, animals, butterflies, birds, cartoon characters and heart-shaped designs.

Over 60 stalls have been set up at Gandhi Maidan, including departmental stalls and sales counters for nursery plants, agricultural implements and machinery. Displays of fruits, vegetables and spices grown by local farmers have also been arranged, with prizes announced for the best exhibits.
