Acting on specific information regarding illegal beef smuggling, activists of the Hindu Jagran Vedike intercepted an Alto car bearing registration number KA-50 M-6232 in Kalkandur village of Somwarpet taluk.
The activists seized the vehicle along with five accused involved in the alleged smuggling, including Adrama of Kalkandur and four workers from Assam, and handed them over to the police for further action.
Hindu Jagran Vedike District Coordinator Boje Gowda alleged that the police have failed to take strict and effective legal measures to curb illegal cow slaughter and beef trade in Kodagu district. He stated that such activities hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community, which considers the cow sacred, and demanded stringent action to prevent recurrence.
