Kuvempu Remembered as a Poet of Universal Vision

Speakers at a commemorative programme described Kuvempu as a poet of the era, a poet of the world, and one of the great Rasa Rishis of Kannada literature, whose works continue to inspire generations.

The speakers emphasized Kuvempu’s message of transcending caste, religion, and sect to embrace universal human values. They highlighted his literary works such as Navilu, Pakshikashi, and Shudra Tapasvi, noting that his writings earned recognition and awards throughout his life.

Referring to Kindarijogi of Bommanahalli, speakers observed that the work left a lasting impression on children and vividly portrayed human personality, nature, and the beauty of mountains. They stated that even a single work of Kuvempu offers a profound experiential understanding.

Munir Ahmed remarked that understanding Kuvempu’s ideologies fosters scientific temper. Folklore Council District President B.G. Anantha Shayana noted that Kuvempu’s writings reflect new ideas and rational thought. H.L. Diwakar suggested developing the area around Kuvempu’s statue into a park, while Mohan Maurya emphasized the need to study Kuvempu’s works to understand his ideals and aspirations.

Certificates were distributed to winners of a painting competition based on Ramayana Darshanam. Kannada Sahitya Parishad District President M.P. Kesava Kamath, former President T.P. Ramesh, Sarvodaya Samiti President Ambekallu Kushalappa, VokkaligaSangha President S.M. Chagappa, writer U.R. Nagesh, and others attended the programme.

Earlier, Municipal Council President P. Kalavathi, Tahsildar Sridhar, and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the statue of Kuvempu near the DCC Bank. Teacher Jayalakshmi and her team rendered patriotic songs. Kumar from the Kannada and Culture Department welcomed the gathering, and Manajur Manjunath proposed the vote of thanks.
