Kodagu Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena directed officials to expedite the completion of pending works under the Jal Jeevan Mission while presiding over the District Water and Sanitation Mission Committee meeting in Madikeri.
Expressing concern over a possible drinking water shortage at Navodaya School during the summer months, the CEO instructed officials to take immediate preventive measures, noting that water scarcity usually begins as early as February and could affect students during examinations.
Executive Engineer R. Bhaskar of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department informed the meeting that a request has been made to the Municipal Council to supply drinking water to Navodaya School through the Kootuhole route. Project Director B. Basappa suggested taking up the issue with the Deputy Commissioner and the City Municipal Council, which the CEO agreed to pursue.
The CEO noted that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, drinking water arrangements have been made in 457 inhabited areas of the district, with 352 works completed and 179 handed over to Gram Panchayats, while the remaining works are in progress.
He emphasized that the scheme must cover all rural institutions, including anganwadis, schools, colleges, health centres and government offices, and directed officials to ensure uniform water supply through ‘Nalli Neeru’ connections and immediately report and rectify any variations.
