Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the installation of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on government land near Sudarshana Circle, Madikeri.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gowda said that with the cooperation of the Madikeri City Municipal Council President and its members, the long-standing demand of residents to install the statue has come closer to reality. He informed that a bronze statue of Dr. Ambedkar will be installed at an estimated cost of Rs 44 lakh.
The MLA added that the work would be completed within four to six months and directed committee members to ensure quality. He also assured that efforts would be made to secure additional funding from the MLA’s quota.
After completion of the work, a grand inauguration involving all district organisations will be organised, he said.

Satish, Media Spokesperson Vinay, Vice President Dilip Kumar, Treasurer Prema Krishnappa, Ahinda Coalition Founding President T.P. Ramesh, former Municipal President Anita Poovaiah, Prakash Acharya, Bekal Ramanath, D.C. Nirvanappa, former BJP President Bharatish, Council members and the public were present.
For the first time in Kodagu, a bronze statue of Dr. Ambedkar will be installed on a 2-3 cent government plot, alongside a landscaped park.
