Ponnampet: A two-day nature education programme organised by the Coorg Wildlife Society for students of Coorg Signature Academy, Ponnampet, concluded on a highly successful note, offering children an immersive introduction to Kodagu’s rich biodiversity.

The initiative provided students with hands-on learning experiences on the significance of forests, rivers, wildlife and the broader ecosystem. Participants were also taught essential forest etiquette and the importance of respecting animals in their natural habitats.

A special short film on herpetology helped students understand the fascinating world of reptiles, while a guided early-morning nature walk offered them the chance to spot and identify common birds and animals. Interactive sessions and nature-based activities kept the young learners engaged throughout the programme.

Organisers Adip Bopaiah, Bose Madappa, Shiv Subaiah and Naveen Bopaiah, along with special contributor Raagini Muddaiah, were appreciated for their efforts in inspiring children to appreciate and conserve nature. The academy’s executive committee also extended its gratitude to all members who supported the cause.

A special acknowledgement was given to ACF Ananya Kumar for granting the necessary permissions and helping ensure the programme was both smooth and memorable for the students.

Great initiative by CWS. This effort should be multiplied manifold times – after all the Childrens future needs to be secured.
Educational institutions should consider making it part of the curriculum – visits, practicals… and much greater awareness.
