Good books are essential for achieving success in academics and competitive exams, said G. P. CEO Anand Prakash Meena.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of National Library Week 2025, held on Thursday at the Mahatma Gandhi District Central Library, organised by the Public Library Department and the District Central Library.
Literary scholar K. P. BalasubrahmanyaKanjarpane highlighted that National Library Week is observed annually from November 14, marking the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru. The week is dedicated to the memory of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), known as the father of library science in India. Originally a distinguished mathematician and educationist, Dr. Ranganathan served as a mathematics lecturer in a government college in Mangaluru. He formulated modern library rules and laid the foundation for the development of libraries.

Basavaraju, Deputy Director of the School Education Department, said that reading books is crucial for growth. Books are the doors to the temple of knowledge, and students should be encouraged to read more. The library is the best platform for academic achievement.
Assistant Professor and author Dr. Dikshitha Varkady said that reading good books can change one’s life and acts as a guiding light.
Dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. District Chief Librarian Surekha welcomed the gathering. Students of the Government First Grade College rendered the national song, Nagaveni of the mobile library unit offered prayers, and prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions.
