The process of recruiting 12,000 teachers for government schools and 6,000 for aided schools, totaling 18,000, is underway, said School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa.
He was speaking at the centenary closing ceremony of the Government Higher Primary School in BelurKusuburu village near Somwarpet on Saturday. The Minister said that the government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has introduced several initiatives to strengthen government schools, including the introduction of Pre-Lower Primary (LKG and UKG) classes.
He said the government has approved nearly 900 Karnataka Public Schools, one in each gram panchayat area, and will provide free transportation. Priority is being given to quality education, construction of new school buildings, and provision of free electricity. Evening special classes are also being held to improve academic performance.
The Minister said about 1.16 crore students are studying in government, aided, and unaided schools from LKG to Class 12 across Karnataka. There are 46,000 government schools and 57,000 aided schools functioning in the state.

Highlighting that the nation’s growth is linked to education, he said the government is investing heavily in infrastructure and quality education. CCTV cameras are being installed for SSLC and II PUC exams to ensure transparency.
Tominimize academic disruptions, a three-exam policy has been implemented, with examinations spaced at 25-day intervals, which has resulted in 1.16 lakh students passing this year.
MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda said teachers have a great responsibility in shaping children’s futures and must work collectively to improve government schools. He urged teachers to make sincere efforts to ensure quality education.
Dr. Gowda recalled that former Chief Minister R. Gundurao studied at Belur Government School, which has produced many achievers working across India and abroad. He said that the school continues to nurture leadership qualities.
School Development Committee President K. Prasad, Centenary Committee President G.S. Prabhudev, Honorary President K.D. Kumar, Alumni Association President K.P. Ullas, Vice-President Anand, Belur Gram Panchayat Vice-President Sudarshan, District Guarantee Implementation Committee Chairman Dharmaja Uthappa, and several other officials and dignitaries were present.
