An eye-catching procession of still images, the main highlight of Gonikoppal Dasara, was held on Vijayadashami. The event featured creative tableaux carrying social and patriotic messages.
The procession began in front of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) and was flagged off by District Chamber of Commerce President Nagendra Prasad. Seven sound films from various government departments and six still films from community groups were presented. The Operation Sindoor still image by Sarvam Samiti stirred patriotic fervour, while the Bhagat Singh Yuvaka Sangha’s depiction of the ill effects of drug abuse delivered a strong social message. The Friends’ Association of Ponnampet showcased the philanthropic contribution of Huchamma Chaudhary, who had donated land for a government school.
The procession also included performances by Kerala folk groups, bhajans by Omkar Bhajana Group from Bantwal, and cultural displays by Kodagu Valaga. Health Department staff presented messages on public welfare. The event concluded at 6:30 p.m. near the Nada Habba Committee office.
Thousands of spectators lined the main road to witness the colourful display. The police, under the leadership of the DySP, ensured tight security throughout. Later, a mass feeding programme was organised in front of the Nada Habba Committee office, followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
