Squadron Leader Ajjamada B. Devaiah’s 60th Death Anniversary Observed: Air Marshal Kodandera Nanda Cariappa Calls for Remembering Brave Soldiers. The 60th death anniversary of Squadron Leader Ajjamada B. Devaiah, Mahavir Chakra (posthumous) awardee who attained martyrdom in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, was observed meaningfully in Madikeri.
Retired army officers, soldiers, community leaders, elected representatives and members of various organizations paid floral tributes at Sq. Ldr. Ajjamada B. Devaiah Circle. The programme was organized in collaboration with Codava Makkad Coota, Ajjamada family and the Squadron Leader Ajjamada Devaiah Trust.

Air Marshal Kodandera Nanda Cariappa, speaking after paying respects, said it is the responsibility of every citizen to remember the brave soldiers who safeguard the Nation. He remarked that just as people seek divine protection, soldiers who risk their lives for the country are equal to God. He urged that martyrs like Devaiah be eternally remembered.
Former Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah recalled Devaiah’s bravery in shooting down an enemy aircraft during the 1965 war and described him as a symbol of patriotism. Retired Army Officer BaleadaMandappa said Devaiah’s sacrifice for the country, even at the cost of his life and family, is unforgettable.
Forum leader Ulliada Poovaiah stressed that the memory of Squadron Leader Ajjamada Devaiah should be celebrated every year on September 7 across Karnataka.

On this occasion, Codava Makkad Coota President Bollajira B. Ayyappa highlighted the need for greater welfare measures for retired soldiers, including health security, housing and basic facilities, urging the government to act promptly.
It was noted that Kodagu district is home to two Mahavir Chakra awardees: Squadron Leader Ajjamada B. Devaiah and Colonel Puttichanda S. Ganapathy. Both are remembered for their valour and efficiency.
The programme concluded with a moment of silence for the passing of Colonel Kandrathada Subbaiah, President of the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General K.S. Thimmaiah Forum, followed by the National Anthem.
