A person identified as Nagappa Hanumantha Lamani (26), a resident of Belagali village in Mudhol taluk, Bagalkot district, was arrested by Madikeri police after posting an indecent video. The social media monitoring team of the Kodagu district police found a video uploaded on an Instagram account named Kotya-2026 using footage of the Madikeri KSRTC bus stand along with the caption: “Where in Madikeri district do you need a girl for dating, call 8904088873”.
The police registered a suo motu case under Sections 318(4), 78 BNS, 66(e), 67 IT Act, and Section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, along with provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act at the Madikeri Town Police Station.
The investigation was led by Madikeri Sub-Division DySP Suraj, Circle Inspector Raju P.K., Sub-Inspector Annapurna, and staff. The accused, Nagappa Hanumantha Lamani, was arrested on August 30, 2025, and produced before the cour.
Police officials remarked that while earlier such indecent messages were written on public toilet walls, offenders are now misusing social media to spread them. Some have also misused Google platforms in ways that tarnish the district’s reputation. They added that appropriate action has been taken and the culprits will be punished to ensure that others posting objectionable content online will learn from this.
