Virajpet MLA and Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor A.S. Ponnanna inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development works worth more than Rs 20 crore in Karike Gram Panchayat recently.
He inaugurated the newly constructed Ashram Adivasi Tribal School building at Pachepilavu in Karike, built at a cost of Rs 4 crore. Addressing the gathering, Ponnanna said that the government is committed to providing quality education to tribal students and has started residential schools in remote hamlets to ensure access to education.
He emphasized that education is the key to change and noted the government’s efforts in strengthening facilities in education and health sectors. He urged tribal students to make full use of hostels and residential schools so that they are not deprived of education for any reason. The Maharishi Valmiki Adivasi Tribal Residential School, built at a cost of Rs 4 crore, must be utilized effectively by the students of the region, he added.
Gram Panchayat President Balachandran Nair, District President of the Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee Dharmaja Uthappa, Integrated Tribal Development Project Officer S. Honnegowda, Taluk Officer Balakrishna Rai, and Project Director of Nirmiti Kendra Sachin were present.
On the same day, Ponnanna donated Rs 15 lakh near Chettukaya Aranya Pravasi Mandir, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for an Anganwadi building costing Rs 85 lakh, inspected the bridge construction site on Karibalapu Scheduled Caste Colony Road, and performed the groundbreaking for new works costing Rs 85 lakh on Pongaru Road. He also inaugurated the Kindi Dam Bridge built at a cost of Rs 70 lakh on Arthukutty Road, inaugurated Madekana Road constructed at a cost of Rs 75 lakh, and dedicated to the public a new electricity line and five transformers costing Rs 2 crore up to Chettukaya.
He further inspected the Karike-BhagamandalaHighway road work, taken up at a cost of Rs 12 crore, and heard the grievances of locals.
