Burglars had targeted Police Quarters
Kodagu Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan informed at a recent press conference in Madikeri that district police had succeeded in arresting accused persons who had committed crimes across Karnataka and other parts of the country. The arrests were linked to a theft case at the Police Hostel in Madikeri.
The arrested have been identified as Suresh Sengar (23) of Narvalli village in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, and Manish Bhagel (27) of Malpur village. More than 25 criminal cases have been registered against Suresh across Karnataka and other states. Action is underway to apprehend the other absconding accused.

SP Ramarajan said that a team of more than 100 police personnel carried out operations over the last two months, leading to the arrests. On the night of June 17 this year, eight houses in the Old Rifle Range Police Housing Complex in Madikeri were burgled. Rs. 95,000 in cash and 5.5 grams of gold ornaments were stolen from three houses.

A special investigation team was formed, and CCTV footage from across Kodagu, Hassan, and Goa was examined. A Maharashtra-registered bike, stolen from Goa, was later recovered from Kandanakolli lake near Makkandur. The accused had been using stolen vehicles for their crimes.

Police teams examined over 500 CCTV cameras covering about 700 km. A special team camped in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and, with local police cooperation, arrested the two accused. Items seized included Rs. 50,480 in cash, nine mobile phones, a bolt cutter, an iron rod, and a backpack. Additional Superintendent of Police Barike Dinesh, DySP Suraj, investigating officers, and staff were present at the press meet. SP Ramarajan congratulated his team and praised their hard work in bringing the culprits to justice.
