If we lose our vision of society, we will create blind people with eyes and deaf people with ears, said K.V. Prabhakar, Chief Minister’s Media Advisor, speaking at Press Day celebrations hosted by the District Journalists’ Association. He also presented Pratibha Puraskar awards to children of journalists.
Prabhakar reminded journalists that they are bridges between society and government and enjoy respect because they mirror society’s struggles. “If we lose this social vision, we will create blind people with eyes and deaf people with ears – and we too will become like that,” he warned. He lamented the state of modern journalism, saying:
“There is sadness in being trapped by relentless breaking news.”
“There is sadness in society being misled by false or half-true news.”
He criticized the shift from reporting people’s hardships to celebrity gossip and corporate-friendly narratives, saying: “When we dig through garbage, we find garbage. When that garbage falls into our eyes and ears, it blinds and deafens society”. Addressing the award recipients, he urged them to grow as ambassadors for the deprived, reminding them that many equally talented children never get such opportunities.
On Family and Values:
Prabhakar lamented the weakening of human relationships due to technology, warning that as mother’s lap, village homes, and farming life fade, old age homes increase. He revealed discussions are underway to provide housing for journalists, promising a decision soon. Shivanand Tagadoor (State Working Journalists’ Association President), Lakshminarayan (Housing Minister’s Media Coordinator), Savita Rai (District Journalists’ Association President), and others were present.
