The Kodagu police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Manjanna (60), a resident of Kudumangalur village, whose body was found on the banks of the Cauvery River at Chikkabettageri under Kushalnagar Rural Police Station limits on March 16, 2025. The arrested accused has been identified as K.M. Chandrashekhar (28), son of the deceased. The police investigation revealed that the murder was committed over property and financial disputes.
According to the police, Manjanna had been living alone in Kudumangalur village after separating from his wife and children due to family disputes. He had lost his left leg in an accident at a coffee curing works 14 years ago, making him physically immobile. His wife, who resides in Hunsur, grew suspicious when his body was found in the river and filed a complaint. Following an investigation, the police arrested Chandrashekhar on July 19. During interrogation, it was revealed that he and his accomplices forcibly took Manjanna from his home in a car. When Manjanna resisted, he was physically assaulted and rendered unconscious. Believing him to be dead, the accused disposed of the body in the Cauvery River at Chikkabettageri, attempting to destroy evidence.
The police confirmed that the motive was to gain access to Manjanna’s money and property. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused involved in the crime, informed Kodagu Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan. A special investigation team led by DySP Chandrashekhar P of Somwarpet Sub-Division, CPI Dinesh Kumar of Kushalnagar Circle, and PSI Ramachandra N. of Kushalnagar Rural Police Station, along with other personnel, successfully carried out the operation. SP K. Ramarajan praised the efforts of the officers and staff for their efficiency and swift action in solving the case.
