An FIR has been registered against Ajjanikanda Mahesh Nachaiah, President of the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, following a complaint filed by Ulliyanda Daty Poovaiah.
According to the complaint lodged at the Madikeri Women’s Police Station, Nachaiah allegedly posted defamatory and objectionable comments against Poovaiah in various WhatsApp groups on July 6, 2025. The remarks, made in the Kodava language, reportedly referred to an incident that took place nearly two decades ago – a matter in which the Madikeri Court had already declared Poovaiah innocent at the time.
The complainant has accused Nachaiah of deliberately reviving the old allegations by circulating related photographs and using language with sexual innuendo and derogatory remarks, causing severe emotional trauma and mental distress. The complaint states that these actions were motivated by personal grudge and were aimed at defaming her character publicly.
Poovaiah, who has been associated with Brahmagiri weekly for over 38 years, stated in her complaint that the actions of the Kodava Sahitya Academy President have led to a situation where she is being portrayed as a characterless woman in public circles. She further expressed that the incident has caused immense psychological suffering and urged the police to initiate legal proceedings.
Responding to the complaint, the Madikeri police have registered an FIR under Section 75(1)(iv) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against Mahesh Nachaiah. The authorities have also submitted a report to the Principal Civil Judge (Junior Division) and JMFC Court, Madikeri, for further legal proceedings.
