A cloud of sorrow has enveloped Kodava homes and hearts as the community mourns the passing of Kalyatanda Bopaiah Ganapathy, affectionately known as the “Bhishma” of Mysuru journalism. He was 85.
For nearly five decades, Ganapathy contributed steadfastly to the field of journalism, writing for esteemed publications such as Mysooru Mithra and Star of Mysore. His dedication, integrity, and commitment to public discourse earned him widespread respect and admiration.
Ganapathy’s life embodied the spirit of the legendary Kalyatanda Ponnappa – a reflection of courage, humility, and service to the community. A Gandhian at heart, he leaves behind a legacy of truth and tireless contribution to society.
We offer our heartfelt tribute to his noble soul and extend our deepest condolences to his children, family, and the entire Kodava community.

As students studying at Mysore in the 80s, we were a witness to the birth of the “Star”, the only eveninger newspaper, the ” Star Of Mysore”.
The concept was new & quite challenging.
It was a herculean task but KBG succeeded in creating the most popular newspaper in Mysore .

All the readers of the Star of Mysore, which he founded looked forward d to his famous column – Abracadabra, where he spared neither friend nor foe.
Mr. Ganapathy was very popular and there was not a soul that did not know him in Mysore. He was a philanthropist, educationist and very proud of his roots as a Kodava. He took keen interest in the maintenance and upkeep of the Kalyatanda Ainmane. May his soul Rest In Peace.
