Kodagu District In-charge Minister N.S. Bhosaraju, speaking at the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations held at Gandhi Bhavan in Madikeri, emphasized the importance of remembering the loyalty and hard work of the legendary ruler Kempegowda. The event was organized in collaboration with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Kannada and Culture.

Minister Bhosaraju stated that Kempegowda’s significant contributions to the development of Bengaluru and his vision in building a model city in South India should never be forgotten. He highlighted that Kempegowda’s commitment and ideals continue to inspire generations.

Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor and Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna also spoke on the occasion. He remarked that Kempegowda’s visionary leadership played a crucial role in the construction of Bengaluru as a prosperous city. During his reign, nearly 13,000 to 14,000 lakes were built, contributing to an increase in drinking water and groundwater levels. Today, with only 150 to 200 lakes remaining, society is increasingly dependent on river sources for water, he added. He urged people to adopt Kempegowda’s values and study his life to understand the depth of his contributions.

Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda noted that Kempegowda worked tirelessly to establish Bengaluru in the 16th century. He said the city, once envisioned as a garden city, has now evolved into an IT-BT hub due to the foundation laid by Kempegowda.

District Vokkaligara Sangha President S.M. Changappa and Kudige Government Pre-University College Principal Handrangi Nagaraju also addressed the gathering.                     Others present included Kodagu Gowda Vidya Sangha President Ambekal Naveen, Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja, Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena, District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee President Dharmaja Uthappa, AmbekalKushalappa, and Assistant Directors of the Kannada and Culture Department, Kumar and Manajoor Manjunath.

A student from Chaudlu village in Somwarpet, who secured the 84th rank in the NEET examination and 7th position in the state ranking, was felicitated during the program.

Book prizes and certificates were also distributed to the winners of the essay and painting competitions organized as part of the Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations.
