Minister for Municipal Administration, Rahim Khan, expressed his dissatisfaction over the inordinate delay in issuing ‘A’ and ‘B’ Khatas, as well as the lack of progress under the Nagarothana scheme.
He was speaking at a district-level progress review meeting with urban local body representatives.
Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda raised concerns about the inefficiency in issuing property documentation. He criticized the practice of demanding tax receipts dating back 15 years, calling it “unjustified and not followed anywhere else in the state.”
Supporting this, Madikeri City Municipal Council Vice President Mahesh Jain and Council Member Arun Shetty also highlighted that citizens were being unnecessarily harassed by municipal officials.
In response, Minister Rahim Khan stated, “Issuing ‘A’ and ‘B’ Khatas is a priority for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Officials must take proactive steps and approach citizens directly, instead of making them run from pillar to post. The process should be transparent, swift, and people-friendly.”
On the status of the Nagarothana Phase IV projects, the Minister noted with concern that only one project had been completed, while 20 remained at the tender stage. He termed the progress “highly unsatisfactory” and urged officials to expedite implementation.
