To create awareness about wildlife conservation and as a part of the 70th Wildlife Week with the motto ‘Coexistence with Wildlife’ organised in Madikeri an ‘Awareness Walk for Wildlife Conservation’ was held.
Speaking after showing green signal for the awareness walk Principal District and Sessions Judge Hosmani Pundaleeka, said that everyone should care about the environment, nature, forest and wildlife for the future by following the laws of nature.
The walk was held on behalf of Kodagu Forest Circle and Madikeri Wildlife Division of Karnataka Forest Department in association with School Education Department, Kodagu District Institute of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Kodagu District Committee of Karnataka State Science Council, Eco Club Unit of National Green Force, National Service Scheme (NSS) and various schools and colleges.
Speaking further Judge Hosmani Pundaleeka said that Nature and environment can survive only when people co-exist with wildlife and opined that ecological balance can be maintained by this.
He also said that we should not cause any harm to the forest and give priority to the conservation of wildlife through the conservation of flora and fauna’.
Every animal and bird have been doing good to the human being indirectly and added that any animals and birds should be preserved so that they do not perish.
Speaking on the occasion Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja said that continuous effort is necessary for the survival of forest and wildlife by everyone’s cooperation in the wildlife week program organized by the forest department.
The special care taken by the Forest Department for the conservation of forest and wildlife is commendable. He said that this walking Awareness procession is helpful in creating awareness among the people about the conservation of forest, environment and wildlife.
Manoj Kumar Tripathi, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kodagu Forest Circle, asked everyone to cooperate in such public awareness program of the Forest Department.
G. Premakumar, Headmaster of Kudumangaluru Government High School and who is also the district nodal officer of the National Green Force and the district nodal officer of the National Green Force, in his introductory speech informed the importance of conservation of forest and wildlife and said that today we must learn to live with the forest and wildlife only then can nature and environment be in balance and added that we should be committed to the conservation of forest and wildlife for a better future.

Sulochana, Scouts Training Commissioner K.U.Ranjith, Guides Training Commissioner Maithali Rao, Guides Teacher Prema, District Committee Member of Science Council at Jatha M.N. Veakatanayak, Hebbale. High school teachers CD Lokesh, Bhoje Gowda, Teachers Society Director SR Shivalinga, Forest Department officials, R. F.O.s, D.R. Officials of various associations and organizations including FOs, foresters, forest observers, staff and citizens also participated in the jatha.
The Wildlife Week Jatha started from Aranya Bhavan in Madikeri and covered a distance of 4 km through the main road of Madikeri town via Town Hall, Chowk and Mahadevpet and ended at Thimmakka Tree Park in Salumara, Swagatbettta.
Carrying various placards related to forest and wildlife conservation and environment protection, the students marched in the jatha to create awareness among the citizens about forest and wildlife conservation.
Srinivas Nayak, ACF Wildlife Division, Kotresh RFO Pushpagiri Wildlife Zone was in charge of the jatha.
