MRI scanning inaugurated at KoIMS by Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil

Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patila recently inaugurated MRI scanning equipment at Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KoIMS), Madikeri. The programwas organised by the Department of Medical Education, Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences.

Speaking on the occasion he informed that an MRI scanning machine, which has been a demand of Kodagu district for many years, has been fulfilled now and added that urgent action will be taken to appoint two medical technicians in this regard.

For the ongoing work of KoIMS another 50 to 60 crore more funds required so in this regard a proposal has been submitted to the government for release and added that an attempt will be made to release funds at the earliest.

He also said that the government has laid great emphasis on health and medical education. In that regard, Sharan Prakash Patila explained that efforts will be made to provide many basic facilities including student hostels and residential houses for the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences. The Minister further said that there are 22 Government Medical Colleges, 2 ESI Hospitals and 24 Medical Hospitals and 71 Medical Colleges in the state.

He said that the government has tried to start medical colleges in every district with the aim that the children of the poor should become doctors. Sharan Prakash Patil said that an attempt has been made to start a super specialty hospital critical care centre along with a medical college in Kodagu district.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mantar Gowda, MLA of Madikeri constituency said that the Government has tried to fulfil the demand of local residents which was due for many years.  Now the people can have MRI scanning without   going to Mysore, Mangalore and Sulya.

MLA explained that MRI scanning does not cause any kind of harm to the body but it will helpful in diagnosing all types of diseases in the body including stroke and bone. He requested the minister to assignee two technical staff immediately.

The Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (District Hospital) space was donated by the Corvanda family. In this regard, MLAs requested that name should be named after Corvanda Thimmaiah. On the occasion MLA also requested the minister to release Rs 50 to 60 crore for the further development work of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences

Dr. Mantar Gowda suggested that along with the doctors of that department, other doctors should also be trained in the use of MRI scanning equipment.

Speaking on the occasion MLA A.S. Ponnanna, Chief Minister’s Legal Adviser and Virajpet Assembly Constituency said that the government has laid great emphasis on medical education and health sector.

He also said that it is commendable that doctors and nurses have provided more medical services during the Covid and added that the government has given more emphasis to the health sector with the aim of giving priority in the field of medical education and health at the international level.

Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education Mohammad Mosin informed that the critical care centre will be started soon in Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (District Hospital)

Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director of Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences also spoke on the occasion. Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya, District President of Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee Dharmaja Uthappa, Chief Administrative Officer of Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences K. M. Rohini, District Surgeon Dr. Nanju Adayah, Medical Superintendent Dr. H. K. Somashekhara, heads of various departments were present. The minister was felicitated on the same occasion.

Presently, the state-of-the-art MRI scanning equipment has been established at the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Madikeri, so that necessary scans can be done here for the patients who come to the hospital and further treatment can be provided following the test reports. This will save the public a lot of money
