Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC)Dr Venkat Raja presiding over a preliminary meeting at his office hall on Pulse Polio said that the program of pulse polio drops for children under five years of age will be held on March 03 and requested necessary cooperation from various departments and organizations.
DC informed that Panchayat Raj, Public Education, Women and Child Development, Regional Transport Departments should cooperate with the Department of Health and Family Welfare during Pulse Polio Program.
Dr Venkat Raja directed the concerned officials to arrange necessary vehicles from the Regional Transport Department and requested CHESCOM to supply uninterrupted supply of electricity on the day of Pulse Polio programme.
The DC also advised the concerned to take cooperationof organizations including Rotary, Lions and Red Cross in order to make the Pulse Polio program a success.
Speaking on the occasion District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr K M Satish Kumar informed that the Pulse Polio program will be held on March, 03 at the booth level and addedthat on March, 4th, 5th and 6th for three days it will be held in urban areas and on March, 04 and 05 for two days it will be held in rural areas.
Speaking further Dr. Satish Kumar informed that there are a total of 42,375 children under the age of 5 in Kodagu district in that 4,400 are urban children and 37,975 are rural children. He also said that polio drops will be given to immigrant children under 5 years of age.
He further said that 464 booths have been set up to administer polio drops in the district and added that 30 mobile booths, 06 mobile teams will be deployed for the purpose. In addition, 1928 vaccinators, 86 supervisors and 924 house-to-house visiting teams will be deployed. 80 vehicles are required for the Pulse Polio program and the DHO requested the regional transport department officials to cooperate in deployment of the vehicles for the Pulse Polio programme. He also requested Polio booths should be allowed to open at tourist places and bus stops also.
Ravindra Rai of Red Cross organisation informed that there is a vehicle in Red Cross and it will be provided on the Pulse Polio Day. Dr. Chetan, Director of Rotary Misty Hills,Achaiah of Rotary organization, Rotarian Mranalini said that necessary support will be given to the Pulse Polio program as in the past.
