D. Udaya Kumar, Principal of Kudige DIET, speaking after participating in the International Literacy Day and Literacy Week programme held at the Madikeri Junior College auditorium, organised by the State Education Research and Training Department (Public Education), District Administration, Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, and District Adult Education Department, said that it is essential to improve the quality of education at the school level.
He stated that literacy has advanced through civilised societies. Education is a form of literacy for humankind, and literacy should be approached objectively.

Vijay, Principal of the Pre-University Education Department, said that it is the duty of all citizens to impart literacy to the illiterate. Teaching every individual to read and write is a virtuous act, he said, and literacy instils confidence and courage.Education Officer Mahesh observed that any country can achieve development only if its population is literate.
On this occasion, D. Udaya Kumar, Principal of Kudige DIET, hoisted the literacy flag. DYPC Krishnappa of the School Education Department also spoke.
District Adult Education Officer R. Hemantha Raj welcomed the gathering. Yamuna narrated and rendered the vote of thanks. Students of Madikeri Government Pre-University College sang a national song. A drama performance was staged by students of the high school department.
