The site at V. Badaga reserved for the proposed high-level sports training hostel in Kodagu was inspected by Ajjikuttira S. Ponnanna, MLA from the Virajpet Assembly Constituency and Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor, along with Rajya Sabha member Ajay Maken.
During the inspection, the MLA explained to the Rajya Sabha member the benefits that would accrue from establishing such a training hostel for athletes of the state, particularly those from Kodagu, and outlined the sports facilities proposed to be developed there.
Later, speaking to the media, MLA A. S. Ponnanna said that he had earlier raised this demand with the MP, recalling with pride the contributions of Kodagu district to sports and the armed forces, and received an assurance that the grant would be provided.
He said that the MP, who visited today, not only inspected the 11.2 acres of land earmarked for the project but also promised to allocate the full amount available under his grant for the construction of the hostel.
Preliminary preparations for the construction are already underway. If schedules permit, the MLA expressed his intention to invite the Honorable Chief Minister, MP Ajay Maken, and the Sports Minister to the area in November for an official program.
