Despite Rain and Holidays, Kodagu Students Excel in Annual Exams: Chidananda Kumar

M.L. Chidananda Kumar, Deputy Director of the Kodagu District School Education Department, speaking as the chief guest at the Pratibha Puraskar programme and the inauguration of the educational and cultural activities for the year 2025-26 held at the Government Pre-University College in Madikeri in association with the School Education Department (Pre-University) and the Kodagu District Pre-University College Principals’ Association, said that despite heavy rains, natural calamities, and holidays, the academic performance of students in Kodagu district has been commendable. Kodagu secured 4th place in the pre-university examinations and he called upon everyone to aim for the first position in the coming year.

He stated that every lecturer worked hard to achieve good results and acknowledged that apart from the teachers, the dedicated efforts of parents played an important role in the lives of students. He noted that there was no difference in the results even though Kodagu faced numerous holidays due to rain.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Kodagu District Principals’ Association Treasurer Antony Vijayan Alvaris said that education is the most valuable asset to recognize and nurture the talent within. Recognizing and honouring talented students, he added, is of great value. He commended parents who sacrifice their happiness and work hard for the education of their children. He further noted that the Principals’ Association has been working in coordination with the Education Department for the successful conduct of all programmes. He explained that the department organizes a Youth Parliament Programme in which the functioning of the upper and lower houses is demonstrated, and he advised students to make use of such opportunities.

Dayana S. Ramakrishna, who retired after serving at Aruna Pre-University College for 33 years, was honoured on the occasion.

Cash prizes were distributed to the students who scored the highest marks in the 2024-25 Second PU Annual Examination:

Arts Department: Afiya Sharif, Navanidan M.R., S. Sajida, Meghashree K.

Commerce Department: Dimple Thammaiah, Shivani K.S., Niksha V.S., Srijana D.D.

Science Department: Vaishnavi T.V., Panyapannamma A.R., Chitra P., Liza James, Mamatha M.P., Sanika Jasmine P., Deeksha Dechamma.

The top scorers, Vaishnavi and Chitra, expressed their gratitude and thanked everyone for their cooperation. Mementos were also presented to the principals of pre-university colleges in Kodagu district that achieved 100% results. These included Pre-University College Gonikoppal, Saint Anthony Pre-University College Ponnampet, Coorg Institute of Pre-University College Halligattu, Aishwarya Samyukta Pre-University College Kushalnagar, APJ Abdul Kalam Residential School Kodlipate, Lions Pre-University College Gonikoppal, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Residential Pre-University College Bhagamandala.

Government Pre-University College Principal P.R. Vijayan, Treasurer of the Principals’ Association Anthony Vijayan Alvaris, Secretary N.K. Jyothi, President P.M. Devaki, Deputy Director Chidananda Kumar and others were present.

Divya and her team offered a prayer. Professor Diwakar narrated the programme. P.M. Devaki, President of the Principals’ Association, welcomed the gathering and Secretary N.K. Jyothi proposed a vote of thanks.
