Shanteyanda Ravi Kushalappa, former Chairman of the Western Ghats Task Force and Chairman of the RajaraGaddige Management Committee, has urged the Kodagu District Administration to take immediate measures to save Gaddige(Royal Tombs) in Madikeri town, which is a state-protected monument.  Addressing media persons recently, Ravi Kushalappa stated that the High Court had ordered the removal of illegal structures on land belonging to Gaddige and directed that the monument be protected. Following this, the government issued an order on November 4 last year, setting a deadline of 15 days. However, even after seven months, the district administration has not acted, he lamented.

He further informed that 1.18 acres of land belonging to Gaddige has been encroached upon by 28 individuals who have constructed buildings illegally, yet no action has been taken. He warned that protests would become inevitable and opined that the district administration may be under political pressure.

No Glass Bridge at Madikeri

Ravi Kushalappa also opposed the proposed plan to construct a glass bridge at Madikeri Raja Seat. He announced that a signature campaign will be launched to oppose the project and requested Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda to intervene and halt it, pointing out that the proposed site is prone to landslides and poses serious risks.
